Replacement of wooden footbridge over the River Mees – Waters Upton
Description
To remove the old structure over the River and replace it with a new wooden footbridge.
Community involvement
The need to replace the footbridge was highlighted by Waters Upton Parish Council. The bridge was surveyed by Telford & Wrekin Council’s Rights of Way Team, and the site work was implemented by the Rights of Way Term Contractor, AJB Contracting.
Why the project was implemented
The footpath that is served by the bridge is an important strategic link in the local network providing the only non-vehicular access over the River Mees to connect Bolas to Cherrington. The path was unusable for a number of years until the abutments were restored by Telford & Wrekin Council and a wooden bridge was installed. The deterioration of the bridge structure would have meant that unless the replacement was undertaken, the route would have to been closed.
How the project was funded
The project was funded through the Council Budget allocation for Rights of Way Improvements.
Cost
- £9,250.
When was project completed
- 29 August 2023.
What are the benefits to the community now?
The bridge is now safe for users and the path can be kept open. An important and well-used local link in the rights of way network has been maintained for future use.
