Training and Signposting
Learning more about the topic of health and wellbeing can be beneficial in helping you to be able to support others. There is also local support in the borough to support you and the pupils and families you work with around health and wellbeing.
The Healthy Families programme is designed to support parents to help their child grow into a healthier weight. Our Healthy Family Practitioners offer face to face and telephone appointments to suit families. As professionals you can refer families to the service or signpost them to self-refer here.
If you as a member of staff would like support with your own lifestyle our Healthy Lifestyle Advisors can help you live a healthier life, do more of the things you want to do, and generally improve how you feel. With personalised one to one support from our Healthy Lifestyles Advisors, you can achieve those goals. There are also specialist stop smoking Advisors who focus on helping residents to quit smoking. You can self-refer to both of these services here.
If your school has access to the e-learning platform Ollie there are a handful of modules you can complete to increase your knowledge on health & wellbeing. We have compiled them into a poster which you can find here along with a few other CPD opportunities.
The Schools Health & Wellbeing audits have been created by Telford & Wrekin Council’s healthy weight team designed to help you see what you are doing
well when it comes to supporting pupil and staff wellbeing as well as giving you ideas for where you can focus next to strengthen your offer. The audit is a live document that you can start and come back to, to be able to update the work you are doing in school. You can also have multiple members of staff granted access to the folder so that completing the audit doesn't have to be
the responsibility of just one person.
If you have yet to take part and would like to access the audit please get in contact with us at healthimprovement@telford.gov.uk, using “School Audit” in the subject line as well as confirming the school that you work in and your role within the school in the email, so we are able to assign you a shared folder.
Appointing a governor to the wellbeing role is a way of ensuring health and wellbeing is a priority through your whole school approach. They can make a big difference by championing wellbeing and linking with teaching staff, support staff, pupils and parents.
Wellbeing Governors can ensure that schools are looking after the health and wellbeing of teachers, school support staff, children and parents, addressing mental and emotional wellbeing, physical activity, food and nutrition and developing programmes.
And if you would like to see how a Wellbeing Governor is working in schools locally, take a look at this post about Millbrook Primary School on the Healthy Telford blog.
