Within Children’s Safeguarding and Family support, we have 4 keys volunteer roles in which you can choose to get involved with:

  • Child and Family Ambassador
  • Activity Volunteer – Care leavers
  • Child and Young People Mentor
  • Family Group Conference Advocate

Each role is different and supports young people and or Families across Telford and Wrekin.

Depending on our availability and interest, we can match a role to suit you.

Child and Family Ambassadors

Volunteers support families as part of our stepdown plan for families who have been supported by our Strengthening Families team. Volunteers are usually required during the day, but some actives do take part in the evening or weekend.

Activity Volunteer – Care Leavers

This role will be to support the Participation Officer in the delivery of the leaving care team participation activities and events. Responsibilities would include assisting the Participation Officer to manage group dynamics, engage with the young people and participate in a range of participation workshops and activities.

Child and Young People Mentor

Mentors provide support to our Care Leavers aged 18-25. Providing support for practical life skills, making forwards plans for their future training, education or employment. Help young people discover a sense of identity and efficacy in their own life. Encouraging young people to engage in new opportunities and activities. Be a safe adult who is independent of a care leaver’s family and the “care system”. Be a positive, active and fun role model for your mentee.

Family Group Conference Advocate

This will involves supporting a vulnerable child or adult at a Family Group Conference. You will be in the room to support the individual or conference if required. This role is not a regular commitment, however when you are supporting a family you are likely to spend 2 to 4 hours with them at time, per week for a few weeks.

Next Chapter Mentors

As a Next Chapter Mentor, you will play a crucial role in supporting young people transitioning out of care. Your guidance and friendship will help them build essential life skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging. You will be a trusted adult they can rely on, offering advice and encouragement as they navigate this critical period in their lives. Your involvement can make a significant difference in their journey towards independence and success.

Life Story Work

Life Story Work Volunteers support children and young people in understanding their personal history and identity. You will work with the Life Story Work team to deliver creative activities that promote self-expression and emotional wellbeing. Your role will involve helping children piece together their life stories, providing them with a sense of continuity and understanding of their past. This work is vital in helping them build a positive self-image and resilience for the future.

Family Hub Volunteer

Family Hub Volunteers provide essential support to families and children through various roles. Under this umbrella, you can choose to be an FGC Ambassador, Family Hubs Support, Advice Drop-in, or Play Together Group volunteer. Each role is designed to offer unique support and services to the community, ensuring families receive the help they need in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Family Group Conference Ambassador

As an FGC Ambassador, you will offer one-to-one encouragement to families receiving support. Your role will involve building trust, confidence, and positive relationships through regular contact. You will help families navigate the support system, ensuring they feel heard and empowered throughout the process.

Family Hubs Support

Family Hubs Support volunteers assist in the day-to-day operations of Family Hubs. You will help create a welcoming environment for families, providing information and guidance on available services. Your support will ensure that families can easily access the resources they need, making their experience at the hub positive and productive.

Advice Drop-in

Advice Drop-in volunteers provide crucial support during advice sessions. You will assist families in understanding and accessing the services available to them. Your role will involve offering a listening ear, providing information, and helping families navigate any challenges they may face.

Play Together Group

Play Together Group volunteers facilitate play sessions for children and their families. You will create a fun and engaging environment where children can play and learn together. Your role will involve encouraging participation, ensuring safety, and promoting positive interactions among families.
