Great British Spring Clean
Street champions unite!
Did you know Telford has almost registered 1,400 street champions and many other residents who care about the state of our land?
Keeping our borough clean and tidy is a priority for us, and once again we will be supporting Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean.
This year’s event runs from Friday 21 March 2025 to Sunday 6 April 2025.
As well as blighting our environment, litter pollution does unimaginable harm to our wildlife. Our mission is to create a better borough and be carbon neutral by 2030. Sometimes the scale of the challenge can seem overwhelming, but we can all do something positive that makes a difference and shows we care.
The Great British Spring Clean is about demonstrating that you love where you live.
This year, Telford & Wrekin Council is once again working with partners, residents and volunteers to organise or participate in activities, encouraging people to help to spare a few hours to litter pick in their own communities.
In Telford and Wrekin, council staff, volunteer Street Champions and Climate Change Champions, local council Community Action Teams, community groups, individuals and businesses will be rolling up their sleeves and taking part.
This year’s campaign will not only see tonnes of litter being removed from the environment, it will also rescue thousands of the plastic bottles and aluminium cans that are littered and could be recycled.
In addition to the various community litter picks local people will be organising during the Great British Spring Clean campaign, the Council is organising its own litter picking day that will cover various locations across the borough. The aim is to bring as many people as possible together to work in small groups on the day with a shared mission to pick up litter.
Dates of litter picks you can take part in:
- Thursday 27 March 2025 – YMCA Wellington, Consort House, Victoria Avenue, 11am - 1pm
- Friday 28 March 2025 – Donnington Community Hub, St Matthews Road, 9.45am - 11.30am

- Thursday 3 April 2025 – Ketley Community Centre, Holyhead Road, 9.45am - 11.30am.

Schools
We’d like to invite your school to get involved in the Great British Spring Clean, the nation's biggest mass-action environmental campaign. We’re calling on #LitterHeroes across the country to clear litter from streets - what is good for our environment is good for our mental and physical health too. Plus, there are some great prizes up for grabs too!
Telford & Wrekin Council, with help from street champions, volunteers, community groups, businesses, and partners, will be holding litter picks across the borough and we sincerely hope you can join us.
We’ll be on hand to help with equipment so taking part couldn’t be easier!
If you are a school and would like to register for the Great British Spring Clean competition, please get in touch with us at pride.officer@telford.gov.uk.
