Frequently asked questions: Household Recycling Centres (HRCs) and E-permits
What can I take where?
You can view details of all the items that we accept and at which recycling centres you can take them in our A to Z of recycling and rubbish. If you have an item that isn’t listed please call 01952 384384 for advice.
Where can I dispose of hazardous household waste?
We do not operate a hazardous waste collection service. Hazardous waste, chemicals and paint can be taken to either Household Recycling Centres (HRC) at Hortonwood 50 or Halesfield 1.
If you have asbestos and need advice on its removal please view our asbestos removal page.
Disposing of commercial, trade or business waste
We do not accept any trade or business waste (commercial waste) at any of our recycling centres, even if you have an entry permit. It is a criminal offence to deposit trade waste at a recycling centre and by doing so you can be prosecuted. See commercial waste for further information and advice.
Where is my nearest recycling bank?
We no longer operate any recycling banks across the borough other than those available at both of our Household Recycling Centres (HRCs).
The recycling banks at the recycling centres can take the following items:
- paper, magazines, junk mail, food and beverage cartons
- glass bottles, jars
- drinks cans, washed food cans, clean aluminium foil
- plastic bottles, yogurt pots, butter tubs, food trays, including black plastic food trays.
Please remember we have a kerbside collection service for residents within Telford and Wrekin for all of the above items.
What happens if I leave rubbish outside the gates?
This is regarded as fly-tipping. It is a criminal offence to dump rubbish and any individuals caught will be liable for prosecution. CCTV cameras are used for site security, health and safety of the public and operatives and to investigate suspected traders/individuals dumping rubbish free of charge.
Can I bring black bags of mixed rubbish?
If you bring black bags of mixed rubbish then staff on site may sort through the bags to make sure we are recycling as much as possible and therefore stopping unnecessary amounts of recycling going to landfill.
