Missed bin collection due to severe weather
Sometimes extreme weather such as high temperatures or snow/ice/freezing temperatures can affect when we can collect your recycling and rubbish.
For up-to-date information please follow us on social media @TelfordWrekin or sign up to bin update emails via https://dac.telford.gov.uk/bindayfinder/
Extreme Heat
- Collections may start earlier than normal; in these cases we ask recycling and rubbish containers to be presented in your normal collection point by 6am on your collection day
- Please do not present batteries on top of your purple wheelie bin, please delay putting this out for collection until the weather is cooler
Ice/Snow/Freezing Temperatures
- Collections may start later than normal, please present your recycling and rubbish containers as normal.
- Frozen green bins – sometimes the moisture in garden waste freezes, this means that the lid is frozen shut – If your green bin is not emptied on your scheduled collection day when it has been extremely cold, this may be the reason – in these cases please return the bin to your property and present next time.
Collection Disruption
- Sometimes, despite collection teams best efforts, extreme weather may mean we are not able to empty your bin on the normal collection day.
- In these cases, our standard advice to residents is:
- Present as normal (or by 6am if we are experiencing high temperatures)
- If your green bin is not emptied by the end of the day, please return it to your property and present on your next green bin collection day.
- If your food waste, blue bag, purple or red top bin is not emptied- please leave these out in a safe place and we will empty as soon as we can
Severe weather affecting collections advice
If severe weather has prevented us from emptying your bins and containers on your usual collection day please follow these instructions.
Red top bin
Leave your red top bin out in a safe place and we will collect it as soon as possible, even if this means introducing a Saturday collection. Please ensure that your bin is not blocking the footpath or the road.
Purple top bin/Blue bag
Leave your purple top bin and Blue bag out in a safe place and we will collect it as soon as possible, even if this means introducing a Saturday collection. Please ensure that your bin is not blocking the footpath or the road.
Food waste caddy
Leave your outside food waste caddy out in a safe place and we will collect it as soon as possible, even if this means introducing a Saturday collection. Please ensure that your caddy is not blocking the footpath or road and is clearly visible for our crew.
Green bin
Take your green bin back in as we will be prioritising red top and purple bin/blue bag collections during prolonged periods of bad weather. Please wait to put them out again on your next scheduled collection day.
Once we get over any snow or ice related problems your collection day will return to your normal collection day.
