Business rates fraud
Some UK businesses evade paying all or part of the business rates they owe.
Telford & Wrekin Council works to collect all business rates due across the borough.
Your information can help us identify businesses that are evading payment, recover unpaid rates and secure future payments.
Examples of business rates fraud include:
failing to declare new business premises
failing to declare that a property is used for business purposes
failing to tell the Council that a business has occupied a property
falsely claiming that an occupied property is no longer in use
falsely claiming a reduction or relief

If I report fraud, will I remain anonymous?
You do not have to give your name when reporting suspected fraud. However, providing it may help our investigation by allowing us to contact you with questions. We treat all information in strict confidence and will not disclose your details to the person or business you report.
The Data Protection Act prevents us from sharing the outcome of individual fraud investigations with members of the public. However, we review every case reported to us. If someone is prosecuted for business rates fraud, we will issue a press release to local media and publish it in the Newsroom section of our website.
