Child sexual exploitation (CSE)

How we are dealing with child sexual exploitation in Telford

Keeping children and young people safe from harm is the most important thing Telford & Wrekin Council does.

Whilst there have been failings which date back many years, an independent report by OFSTED in 2016 confirms that our work to support and safeguard children from sexual exploitation is ‘strong’ and that ‘the local authority has been a champion for tackling this issue’.

But the council can’t do this on its own. Partnership working is key and we value our effective working relationships with our safeguarding boards, as well as our children and families and our community partnership boards, who drive the borough’s child sexual exploitation work.

There will always be more that we can do but collectively we are committed to putting victims and survivors first and bringing perpetrators to justice.

  • Child sexual exploitation is a vile crime. We will never ignore it.
  • We have invested in our safeguarding service and will continue to do so to ensure the right support and help is available.
  • Child sexual exploitation is everyone’s business. We all need to look out for the signs.

If you think you or a friend might have been sexually exploited, please tell someone!
