World Empty Homes Day - 8 October 2026

This World Empty Homes Day, we're celebrating the progress being made across Telford and Wrekin to turn empty properties into much-needed homes.

Over the past five years, we've helped bring 386 empty homes back into use, creating more housing opportunities for local people and helping to revitalise communities across the borough.

And we're not stopping there. Following Cabinet approval, we've set an ambitious new target to bring a further 400 empty homes back into use by 2031, building on the success of our award-winning work.

Every empty home returned to use provides a place for someone to live, supports our communities and makes the best use of existing housing.

From empty houses to family homes, we're continuing to make a difference.

With our adopted Empty Property Strategy, we aim to bring long-term empty homes back into use. The strategy provides the framework for dealing with the various issues associated with long-term empty homes in the private housing sector and registered social landlords (RSL’s).

To make this strategy a success, we need to continue to build on the existing working relationships internal and external with partnerships to raise the profile of the empty homes.
