A decent home is the foundation on which people build their lives and communities thrive.

In our new five-year housing strategy, we outline our commitment to expand and improve housing across the Borough and support those most in need.

The strategy, which is currently in draft, has three clear objectives:

  • to support safe, clean, green and integrated communities
  • to make the best use of our existing homes
  • to provide homes to support and empower our most vulnerable people.

What does this mean?

The 2025 to 2030 strategy will build on what was achieved in the previous Housing Strategy 2020 - 2025 (.pdf Size: 23742Kb)

  • Supported nearly 2,000 private tenants to improve their homes by resolving issues such as cold, damp and mould.
  • Brought 312 long term empty properties back into use.
  • Prevented more than 1,700 people from becoming homeless.
  • Helped more than 7,000 households which are fuel poor and helped 367 households to improve energy efficiency.
  • Provided 2,313 disabled facilities grants to adapt people’s homes.
  • 48 acres of brownfield land brought back into use.
  • Secured more than 25% of affordable homes on all major developments.
  • 829 Nuplace homes completed or under construction, providing accommodation to more than 1,500 residents.
