Citizenship ceremonies

Many congratulations if you have received a letter confirming you can attend a Citizenship Ceremony as the final stage of your application to become a British Citizen.

Our current group ceremonies have been cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak and Government lockdown.

Customers would normally be expected to book their citizenship ceremony within three months of being sent an invitation from the Home Office. Due to the current pandemic circumstances UKVI have extended this period to six months and will keep this under constant review. Please note that Citizens will have no adverse decisions made on applications because of delays caused by Coronavirus.

As of the 30 November 2018, all Local Authorities will cease to offer the Nationality Document Return Service. Customers should then apply online via the GOV.UK website for Citizenship.

As of the 31 December 2018, all Local Authorities will cease to provide the Nationality Checking Service. Customers should then only apply online via the GOV.UK website for Citizenship.

The new UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (VCAS)

From 9 November 2018, the majority of customers will complete their applications online, then attend one of 57 new service centres in the UK called UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services and managed by commercial partner Sopra Steria. Customers will attend an appointment at a service centre to submit their biometric information (photo and fingerprints) and supporting evidence (including proof of identity). To learn more about the new services, please visit the GOV.UK website.

Assisted Digital Service

UKVI have set up an Assisted Digital support service that is available to customers who do not have the appropriate access, skills or confidence to complete an online application form. The Assisted Digital Service aims to ensure that nobody is excluded from making an immigration application due to a lack of digital skills or access to a computer. Eligible customers are offered telephone or face-to-face support at a library or in their home to help them access and complete the online form. This service does not provide immigration advice. For more information and contact details for the Assisted Digital Service, visit:

  • visit the GOV.UK website
  • phone: 03333 445675
  • text message: text the word “VISA” to 07537 416944
  • email: (Please include a telephone number you can be contacted on if possible).

Please note: Customers will not be allowed to book appointments for any LA service once they have applied online using the VCAS (FES) service.
