Secondary school admissions

Attention - school admissions and school appeals

Due to the current COVID-19 situation and with the closure of schools we envisage a serious delay to any in-year applications for school places.

This means we are not accepting any in year applications at this time due to the schools being closed.

We recognise that our service is important to you and appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

Applications for children starting primary school or moving to a secondary or junior school in September are currently unaffected.

We will contact you as soon as we have any further information.

If you are moving into the Borough and you fall into the category of vulnerable learner or key worker and may require assistance regarding a school place in terms of child care please email admissions@telford.gov.uk.

Please note that, having regard to the Government's decision to close schools (except for looking after the children of keyworkers and vulnerable children), all admission appeals have been postponed until such time that further guidance is received from government or that schools fully re-open.

Please contact legal and democratic email if you wish to receive further advice Democratic.Services@telford.gov.uk.

If your child was born between 1 September 200831 August 2009 you must apply for a Secondary School place for the academic year 2020/21.

Before you complete your application please refer to our School Admissions Information Booklet 2020/21 and our School Admissions Mythbuster.

Grammar school applications

If you are looking to apply for a grammar school place at either Haberdashers' Adams Grammar School or Newport Girls' High School your child will need to sit an entrance test first. The results of this test will indicate if your child is of an appropriate level for a grammar school place.

The application procedure for pupils wishing to be considered for a place at a grammar school for September begins in the Spring term.

Full information about the admission procedures for each grammar school can be found on their websites:
