All age carers
What is a carer? A carer is someone of any age who provides unpaid support to a family member or a friend, who would not manage without their support. Caring for someone can take up a few hours each week, or a carer may be caring for 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Some carers live with, or near to, the person they are caring for, whereas others provide more remote support.
What is happening in Telford and Wrekin? A five year All Age Carers Strategy has been launched! The plan is dedicated to shaping the future of care provision within the community to enhance support for carers of all ages, ensuring that their contributions are recognised and that they receive the assistance they need to thrive.
We are excited to share with you our All Age Carers Strategy

We have identified we need a strategy that identifies areas that are important to carers, ensuring resources are used where carers of all ages need them the most.
An All Age Carers Strategy has been developed, following extensive consultation and engagement with carers, professionals, organisations and groups across the Borough.
The Council undertook the consultation on the draft strategy throughout the period 18 April 2024 – 19 July 2024.
What happened next?
Following consultation, we reviewed all of the feedback we received and made respective amendments to the strategy. A final draft of the strategy has now been produced and approved at Cabinet (November 2024).
The All Age Carers Strategy highlights the importance of partnership working, in particular, the work that continues with our engagement partners, Telford and Wrekin CVS, and the Carers Partnership Board.

The development of the Carers Partnership Board with the Carers Centre (provided by Telford and Wrekin CVS, commissioned by Telford & Wrekin Council) will support each delivery and implementation of each action from the All Age Carers Strategy and provide an opportunity for agencies to feedback on developments, asking key questions, such as:
- What is working?
- What changes have been made?
- What is planned for the future.
The Partnership Board will be made up of carers, experts with lived experience that access services, and the various partnership organisations that help shape and deliver services to carers and/or the people they care for. Children’s Services will also continue to promote the work with parent carers through the short breaks forum in addition to the Carers Partnership Board.
Engagement will be carried out with Carers across the Borough, to ensure any developments are co-produced to meet the identified outcomes. The Carers Partnership Board will oversee the implementation of the strategy through an agreed action plan approach.
The role of the board will:
- continue to monitor and drive the developments of the strategy for the next 5 years through a comprehensive live action plan
- be involved, influence, collaborate and co-produce the offer for all age carers.
The board will meet every quarter and is chaired by an Expert by Experience.
