Our team says
I joined Telford and Wrekin Council on the Pathways To Planning Graduate Scheme as a Planning Assistant in August 2025. Knowing I had no previous planning experience, my colleagues have been really supportive, helping me learn and grow in my role. The work is very interesting, making a positive difference to the Borough, and I look forward to my future career within the team. – Molly, Planning Assistant
Since joining the Planning and Building Control Technical Support Team, I’ve grown a real interest in Building Control. I was encouraged to complete the LABC Technical Qualifications, which really boosted my confidence, and I’m genuinely enjoying the role. I’ve also been encouraged to explore other roles within the wider function, and now I feel much more confident about applying for these opportunities. I’ve always had great support from my Team Manager to build up my skills, and I’m really happy to be part of such a great team. – Steve, Planning and Building Control Technical Support Officer
I would wholly encourage a career in Development Management as it provides you with complex, challenging and rewarding projects that will develop infrastructure and make a positive difference to the area that you work. There is a genuine sense of achievement when a project you have worked hard on, is fully delivered and you get to witness the positive impact that it has on the community and environment. Also, the skills and attributes that you will develop will stand you in good stead for the remainder of your working career.
And on a personal level I also love the fact I always have the opportunity to continue progressing my development. Whether through further education or training, the opportunity is always there for me continue my growth as an Engineer, with full payment of any professional or training fees provided! Add to that first-rate support from management level, very generous leave, and flexible working, which is priceless for myself with a young family, then I cannot recommend highly enough a career in Development Management at Telford and Wrekin Council. – Tom, Senior Project Engineer, Highways Development Management
