Simpler recycling
Background
As part of the Resources and Waste Strategy (2018), the Environment Act 2021 was introduced.
The new regulations aim to increase recycling rates in England in a number of ways.
In 2023 UK Government produced a Waste Prevention Programme for England: Maximising Resources, Minimising Waste
At the same time Government announced Simpler Recycling in England. This aims to make recycling easier by enabling items to be recycled at both home and at work.
New requirements
The new requirement is for households to be able to recycle the following through kerbside collections:
- Paper and card collected separately from other recyclables
Households can recycle these in Telford and Wrekin by using the blue bag.
Plastic, metal (cans) and glass
Households can recycle these materials in their purple bin.
Garden waste
Households can recycle green garden waste in their green bin at no extra charge.
Food waste collected weekly from 2026
A weekly food waste recycling collection service. In Telford and Wrekin, households can already recycle food waste in their silver caddy, which is collected weekly.
Need containers
If you do not have any of the above recycling containers, you can order them free by viewing the Save time - do it online webpage.
The Government currently propose plastic film should be able to be recycled at the kerbside from 2027 – look out for more information on how we will introduce this service in the future.
