Noise

Before you begin recording any instances of noise nuisance you need to first tell us about a noise complaint. You can complete our online form to report the noise complaint.

Alternatively, call our Contact Centre on 01952 381818 and discuss the nature of the nuisance. They will then ask a few simple questions to record your complaint on our database and discuss the most suitable approach to recording noise nuisances - either the 'Noise App' (smartphone app) or using a 'Diary Sheet' (spreadsheet).

The Noise App

The Noise App is a quick and easy way to record noise which is causing an annoyance/nuisance. The recordings are uploaded directly onto a secure site that Council Officers access, they can then make a judgement of the noise and what action is necessary. You can make up to five recordings a day and each recording can last for up to 30 seconds.

Please note:

  • you will need a 'Smart device' (either a smart phone or mobile tablet) to use this app
  • the app will require an internet connection either via broadband or mobile data (3G/4G network), we recommend using broadband to connect to the internet if you have a low mobile data allowance
  • all recordings carry a GPS stamp so that officers are aware of your location when you are making the recording, and all recordings carry a date and time stamp. You will need to allow the app to use the location services of your smart device.

How to use the Noise App

  • Step 1
Download the free noise app from Google Play store for android.
Download the free noise app from the Apple Store for iOS.
  • Step 2
Create your account and choose 'Telford and Wrekin Council' as your service provider to investigate your noise nuisance reports.
  • Step 3
To record a nuisance simply tap the icon, make a 30-second recording of the noise, complete a form and submit your recording online. Please continue to record the nuisance over a two week period.
  • Step 4
Await a response from us. After we have received two weeks' worth of recordings please allow up to three weeks for us to contact you and discuss your complaint.
