Cycling routes

Cycling routes are principally indicated by signs and markings. They may be either on the carriageway, on footways either shared with or segregated from pedestrians, or specially designated cycle paths.

Our walking and cycling route maps are available from libraries, the new Visitor's Centre in Telford Town Park and the Arriva Travel Shop in Telford bus station.

Maps are also available from cycle shops such as:

  • Cycle Experience in Telford Town Park
  • Halfords at the Bridge Retail Park
  • Perry's Cycles in Wellington
  • Nova Cycles in Newport.

Alternatively you can contact us for a map or advice on a particular route.

Useful websites

CycleStreets is a UK-wide cycle journey planner system, which lets you plan routes from A to B by bike. It is designed by cyclists, for cyclists, and caters for the needs of both confident and less confident cyclists.

To find our more information please visit the CycleStreets website - they also have a smartphone app available for you to use on the go!

There is also a good series of maps produced by Sustrans (the sustainable transport organisation) which cover the whole country. Sustrans have developed national cycle routes (often using old railway beds) and there are three that run through Telford and Wrekin, namely routes 55, 81 and 45.

To find our more information on these routes please visit the Sustrans website. There is also a section on 'Telford to Ironbridge Gorge' that is well worth exploring.
