Description: Telford & Wrekin Council has issued a £450 Duty of Care Fixed Penalty Notice after a large amount of waste was dumped beside a public litter bin on Bryce Way, Lawley.
Waste found at the scene was linked to a Leegomery resident, and CCTV from Lawley Village Academy showed people leaving the rubbish after a private event in the school hall. The hall hirer confirmed booking the venue but denied dumping the waste and did not identify those seen on camera.
As officers could not issue a fly‑tipping FPN, the individual was fined for failing to ensure the waste from their event was disposed of properly. The £450 penalty was paid early, confirming acceptance.

Description: A Telford resident has paid a £450 Fixed Penalty Notice after household waste was found dumped on a public footpath on Brereton, Brookside.
Officers discovered a clear fly‑tip consisting of soggy cardboard, polystyrene, supermarket bags of household waste, handbags and a travel bag—around five bags and a cardboard box in total.
The rubbish was traced back to a nearby address, and the resident was issued a Duty of Care FPN for failing to ensure their waste was disposed of properly. No explanation was given, and the £450 penalty has since been paid in full.

Description: A Malinslee resident was fined £1,000 after admitting to fly‑tipping waste taken from a family member’s home. The dumped items included children’s toys, bedding, metal poles and other household waste, all traced back to the offender.When interviewed under caution, they admitted leaving the waste at the site, claiming they thought it was “normal” because others had done the same.

Description: We successfully prosecuted a resident for failing to dispose of household waste responsibly. The individual left waste outside their home, claiming limited bin space and concerns about storing it in the garden. They pleaded guilty to an offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 for not ensuring proper waste disposal, which created a hygiene risk in a public area. The court noted the potential for attracting vermin and issued a total penalty of £1,484.94.

Description: A Wellington resident has been prosecuted for breaching a Noise Abatement Notice after repeated complaints about excessive dog barking.
At Telford Magistrates’ Court, the defendant pleaded guilty and received a total penalty of £4,817.
A five year Criminal Behaviour Order was also granted, preventing him—who currently owns 16 dogs—from acquiring more dogs and requiring him to work with a dog behaviour specialist.
If the order is breached, further court action and penalties, including possible prison, may follow.

Description: Telford & Wrekin Council is reminding residents to check that anyone they pay to remove rubbish is properly licensed.
A fly-tip found on Madeley Pit Mound on 15 October contained packaging and a pram, and evidence linked the waste to a local resident.
The resident said they had paid someone on Facebook to take the rubbish but had not checked if they were licensed and couldn’t provide any contact details. They expressed regret, saying they believed they were disposing of the waste correctly and would only use professional waste carriers in future.

Description: A Telford woman has been ordered to pay £1,163.56 after waste from her home was found dumped on Boulton Grange, Randlay.
She failed to meet her legal Duty of Care to ensure her household waste was disposed of correctly and did not respond when given the chance to explain.
After she ignored a Fixed Penalty Notice, the case went to court. She claimed that residents were using each other’s bins and rubbish may have been thrown out, but she pleaded guilty and received a total bill of £1,163.56.

Description: A Telford resident has been fined £1,648 for failing to dispose of her waste responsibly after allowing someone else to dump it on council‑owned land.
She pleaded guilty at Telford Magistrates’ Court. Although she initially claimed she believed the land was part of her property, she later admitted she knew the Council maintained it and said she regularly left cardboard there because her recycling bags were often stolen.
Magistrates ruled that her actions were deliberate and ordered her to pay a fine, prosecution costs and a victim surcharge, totalling £1,648.

The case shows the council continues to prioritise tackling fly-tipping of any kind and will not hesitate to fine or prosecute people where there is evidence. Fourteen people have been handed fixed penalty notices (FPNs) over the past two months for fly-tipping in Boulton Grange, Randlay and Dalford Court, Hollinswood. Most of the rubbish was being left near the flats. Three FPNs were for the same fly-tip which included black sacks of rubbish. A fridge/freezer and sofa was also tipped. Description: This large pile of cardboard was dumped in a country lane by the entrance to a field. Members of the public who care about their area reported it to us. After investigating, we issued a fixed penalty notice and the person responsible is now out of pocket. Ward member, councillor Angela McClements said: “I work closely with Arleston Neighbourhood Watch and the police to encourage residents to report fly-tipping. They can do this via the MyTelford app. We all want to live in a clean area, so if you spot waste dumped anywhere in the borough, please let us know so we can quickly remove it.”

The owner admitted a breach of duty of care and will have to pay a total of £1,139.66. Description: Dumping tree waste is an act of fly-tipping which we take just as seriously as any other type of waste. That’s why we didn’t hesitate to prosecute the person responsible for tipping a large amount of conifer branches in the middle of this lane causing a danger to others. Description: Just look at the waste piled up outside this barber shop. We had complaints from the public that it was attracting rats which was unpleasant for residents and other businesses. We investigated and told the owner to provide evidence of how they were disposing of their waste, including sharp waste which could be harmful to people. Waverley fly tip

Description: A landlord initially blamed his former tenants for this large fly-tip in Waverley, Woodside. However, after the council investigated, the landlord came clean and admitted dumping the waste and paid a £200 fine.


Carriages pub fly tip

Description: A member of the public originally reported this fly-tip via the My Telford app but the location wasn’t correct. Our officers followed up the report and located the rubbish on council land behind a pub in Wellington. Among the waste was a cardboard box with an address of a resident in Wellington. They were issued with a fixed penalty notice and paid £200. This case shows how we take all reports of fly-tipping seriously and will follow up information provided by the public.

Description: A business was given a £400 Fixed Penalty Notice for failing to show how it was legally getting rid of trade waste. The rubbish was piled up at the back of the shop causing a fire risk as well as being an eyesore for residents. The owner failed to produce waste documentation resulting in the FPN which was reduced for early payment. The business has since put a waste contract in place.

Description: This case highlights the obligation landlords are under to check that contractors they employ legally dispose of waste. The council has fined a landlord £300 for this fly tip in Arleston Lane, near Lawley Primary School. An investigation linked the waste, which included a bed and broken furniture, to a property in Malinslee, where officers discovered another fly tip. The landlord said they had employed a firm to dispose of the waste but refused to give the name. The Fixed Penalty Notice was issued for Duty of Care offences.

Description: Neighbourhood enforcement officers have successfully fined a fly tipper caught on CCTV dumping garden chairs on a Trench coffee company’s car park after claiming he was ‘leaving them for a friend.’ Footage provided by the business helped identify the offender who was seen unloading the items from his car before buying a coffee and driving off. Businesses across the borough pick up the cost of clearing fly tipping which is why the council is working with them through Telford and Wrekin Watch.
