The Making It Real Board help to develop the future of adult social care

How does the Making It Real Board work?

Our Making It Real Board was set up in January 2018 and is made up of people who use adult services or who are interested in the development of adult social care in Telford and Wrekin along with Council professionals. Discover more about the role of a Making It Real Board Members.

The board meets quarterly working in co-production making recommendations on how adult social care can improve and develop based on emerging themes from experiences and wider service feedback, with the aim of seeing services progress towards more preventative, person-centred and where appropriate community-based approaches. Working in line with the Making It Real national framework, which uses a set of co-produced statements that describe what good care and support looks like, organised into six themes.

These themes also align to the Care Act legislation and are built into the Care Quality Commission (CQC) Single Assessment Framework.

Aligned with the board we hold regular Making It Happen meetings and themed subgroups.

These meetings focus on co-production activity and projects across adult social care. View the opportunities to get involved with co-production activity and projects.

While the board supports with forward planning and cross team working to ensure that work is not duplicated across the different partnership boards, helping to move ideas and solutions into action or practice.

Sarah Roberts

Sarah Roberts

I joined the Making It Real Board in 2019, after my social worker told me it would be a great opportunity to help shape the future of social care and that the board wanted to work with people with lived experience to ensure that they are heard and valued.

I’m now in the position of Co-Chair.

I have been able to learn about how adult social care works and the processes that are in place.

I feel like I am actually being listened to, my opinions and thoughts are taken on board, and I am able to share my experiences, which also shows that each situation is unique to each individual.

I feel empowered and I understand my care and support package, I am engaged in changes and decisions. The decisions I make, no one tries to tell me I am wrong, and should be doing things a specific way. I feel like I am in charge and in control of my care.

Working together we have achieved...

Navigating adult social care can be confusing, so the Making It Real Board created the “Knowing Where to Go” section to help customers find the information they need.

The Making It Real Board has introduced an online feedback form to help us listen to, and act on, the views and experiences of people who use our services.

These experts by experience have worked alongside us to shape the Adult Social Care Charter, ensuring it reflects the principles that matter most to them.

This document is a guide designed to help individuals prepare for a review conversation with adult social care by reflecting on what is working well, how support is affecting their independence, and what changes or additional support may be needed.

My Carers Assessment conversation
