Overview of activity

We are developing an information and advice pack to help people understand how paying for care works when they pay the full cost themselves (known as self-funding).

This includes people receiving care and support at home (also known as domiciliary care) or living in a care or nursing home.

We also want to explain the process known as a capital drop and what to do next. This is when a person’s savings reduces to, or falls below, £23,250 (the level set by the government).

The Council asks residents to contribute towards the cost of their care or support services. We follow government guidance to assess how much you can afford to pay.

  • If your savings are above £23,250, you will need to pay the full cost of your care (self-funding).
  • If your savings fall below £23,250, the Council may be able to help with costs.

Skills and experience required

We are looking for people who have experience of:

  • paying for their own care and support
  • funding a care home or nursing home placement.

This can be current or past experience.

We also welcome people who may go through this process in the future.

Who can get involved?

Adults over the age of 18 who access care and support services or care / nursing home placements.

Support available

Support is available from the Co-production team, please advise on your expression of interest what support would help you to take part.

Expected start / end date

A start date will be identified when we have confirmed expressions of interest for involvement.
