World Heritage Site Management
The Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site is internationally celebrated for its extraordinary contribution to global history. Recognised as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, the inventions, innovation and pioneering spirit that emerged from the Gorge helped shape the modern world.
Our World Heritage Site Coordinator works closely with stakeholders and partners across the area to ensure this remarkable landscape is cared for in a way that reflects its global importance. Through strong collaboration, proactive engagement and a shared sense of pride, we protect both the character and the legacy of this unique place.
A key part of this work is the World Heritage Site Management Plan. The coordinator oversees its review, adoption and delivery. The Management Plan sets out the long term vision for conserving, enhancing and celebrating the site’s Outstanding Universal Value. It guides responsible decision making, supports sensitive development, promotes heritage led regeneration, strengthens tourism, and helps ensure that Ironbridge Gorge continues to inspire and educate future generations.
