Independent Living Skills
Preparing for adulthood can feel overwhelming, but you're not alone. At Telford & Wrekin Council, we’re committed to helping care leavers build the confidence and practical skills needed to live independently and thrive. You’ll also have the chance to meet other care-experienced young people, share experiences, and learn together.
When and Where?
Our Independent Living Skills Programme runs twice a year, in August and February. These sessions are designed specifically for young people leaving care and are delivered in a supportive, engaging environment.
What’s Included?
The covers a wide range of essential life skills, including:
• Budgeting and managing money
• Cooking and meal planning
• Cleaning and home maintenance
• Understanding tenancy agreements
• Health and wellbeing
• Time management and organisation
• Navigating adult services and support

Home Skills & Life Skills Workbook
To support your journey, we also offer a Home Skills and Life Skills Workbook which is a comprehensive resource designed to help you assess your current abilities, identify areas for growth, and plan your path to independence.
The workbook includes:
• Guided questions to reflect on your readiness
• Checklists to track progress
• Worksheets to help you set goals and take action
• This is a great tool to use with your Personal Adviser (PA) or on your own, and it’s available to all care leavers.
