A naming ceremony is the perfect way to celebrate the arrival of a new member of the family in a non-religious way and formally announce the names you have chosen for your child in a ceremony that is specifically designed for you and your family.
Though it is a purely celebratory ceremony that has no legal standing, it provides an ideal framework for all of your family and friends to come together and acknowledge the birth of your baby - becoming a unique occasion when everyone can be involved in offering their love and support for your child's future.
Naming ceremonies are suitable for very tiny babies up to older children who are able to play a starring role in their own ceremony. It could even be a combined naming ceremony for a new arrival and their older brothers and/or sisters.

How do I arrange a ceremony?
You should first contact the Superintendent Registrar to check availability.
You will be asked to pay a non-refundable deposit of £35 when booking your ceremony, and we will also need to see your baby's birth certificate. You will then be given your Naming Ceremony Pack, which will help you make your choices on the content of the ceremony.
How long do naming ceremonies last?
On average, ceremonies take about 20 - 30 minutes. Every ceremony is unique and created to meet your specific needs. Generally, these ceremonies are not overly long - as there are usually small children attending.
The ceremony will be conducted by a professional celebrant, who will be happy to offer help and advice to make sure you have the ceremony of your choice.
We will arrange for you to visit the Register Office no later than a month before the ceremony to discuss the content and finalise details with the celebrant, and also to pay the balance of the fee.
