Cooling towers and evaporative condensers

Under the Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Regulations 1992, the owners of premises in the Telford and Wrekin area with wet cooling systems have a duty to register them with the local authority.

Using the register can assist in the identification of high risk premises both in the case of an outbreak and also for the purposes of monitoring and inspection.

Wet cooling systems in Telford and Wrekin are both enforced by Telford & Wrekin Council and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), depending on the main activity of the premises. The Public Register is held and maintained by Telford & Wrekin Council. Officers from Telford & Wrekin Council may also investigate legionella outbreaks on HSE enforced premises when exercising their Public Health functions.

Telford & Wrekin Council also maintains a public register of all cooling towers and evaporative condensers registered in Telford & Wrekin Council.
