Active travel consultation 2024

In 2022 Telford & Wrekin Council launched their Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP). This plan sets out the council’s vision to further enhance ‘active travel’ across the borough.

Within the document are high level proposals which include improving and building new infrastructure, while also encouraging and supporting residents and visitors to walk, wheel and cycle more in their everyday lives.

It is a working document that will be informed by ongoing consultation with stakeholders to deliver the best outcomes for the community. View the document.

By encouraging the switch away from unnecessary car journeys, our active travel agenda aims to improve air quality and reduce carbon emissions in the borough, supporting an ambitious goal for borough-wide carbon neutrality by 2030.

This plan works alongside the Cycling and Walking Strategy (CWS) which was launched in 2017. The delivery of Cycling and Walking Strategy will place the Borough in a greater position to secure future investment from a range of funding sources

As part of our ongoing plan to improve provisions for pedestrians and cyclists across the borough, we are proposing a new and improved route on Station Road, Oakengates.

The site, from Uxacona Way to the Greyhound Roundabout, has been identified as a suitable location for improved crossing points and the creation of shared routes to improve the safety of cyclists and vehicle users and to improve the connection with existing off highway route. This scheme is funded by Active Travel England as part of the Active Travel Fund.
