Resurfacing schemes

As part of the Council's 4 year investment programme to 'Protect, Care and Invest to create a better borough'. Between 2020 and 2024 over £50m is being invested to keep neighbourhoods safe, clean and well connected. The 'Pride in our Community' Highways Capital Programme will deliver improvements to infrastructure including roads, footpaths, parking, sustainable transport, street furniture, drains and structures.

Our highways vision is to 'Keep Telford Moving' and in 2021/2022 we will invest £21.6m to deliver over 160 improvement schemes across the borough.

Road Maintenance: Surface Treatment Schemes

A programme of Surface Treatment is due to commence on various sites (see Resident Letter for a list of sites with forecasted dates) on 10 May 2021 between the hours of 7.30am and 6pm. The works are a two stage process requiring two applications. This means that Contractors and Traffic Management will visit each site twice, please refer to the Resident Letter for programme dates. The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change:

The Project is being delivered by our principal contractor Balfour Beatty with sub-contractors for Surface Dressing (RMS) and lining (WJ UK).

Detailed Works Programme

  • The works will be managed under Stop and Go / Convoy working. This means that access through sites will be mostly maintained, apart from short periods where the material must harden.
  • Residents and businesses directly affected will receive an information leaflet and resident letter 24/48 hours prior to contractors arriving on site.
  • Advanced information signs will be placed on each site 2 weeks prior to works commencing.

Surface Treatment Scheme

We are planning to carry out Surface Treatments to improve the condition of the highway.

Provisional start and end dates

  • Start date 2 June 2021.
  • End date: 18 June 2021.

Proposed Traffic Management Arrangements

Traffic will be managed by using Stop and Go/Convoy working.

Road Maintenance: A5 Telford Way (Hollinswood Roundabout to Priorslee Roundabout) Resurfacing Scheme

A programme of resurfacing is due to commence on A5 Telford Way (Hollinswood Roundabout to Priorslee Roundabout) on 4 May 2021 and be completed by 12 May (Weekdays only 8am - 6pm). The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change:

A programme of resurfacing is due to commence on A442 Trench Lock Interchange to Wombridge Interchange Southbound on 26 April 2021 and be completed by 5 May 2021 (Weekdays only 8am - 6pm and excluding the Bank Holiday). We are planning to carry out Resurfacing Scheme on A442 Trench Lock Interchange to Wombridge Interchange Southbound to improve the condition of the highway.

  • Start date: 26 April 2021.
  • End date: 5 May 2021.

Traffic Management will be removed over the weekend and Bank Holiday.

Road Maintenance: Dale End to Jiggers Bank (Darby Road Junction) Scheme

A programme of Patching is due to commence on Dale End to Jiggers Bank (Darby Road Junction) on 2 August 2021 for 2 weeks. The works will be carried out under a Dynamic Road Closure, which will be in place between 8am - 5pm, on weekdays only. The hard road closure point will be moved up the road, when sections of the works have been completed. The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change:

  • Road closures will be used at the site with appropriate diversion signage as this allows for works to be completed quickly, safely and efficiently and to minimise disruption.
  • Access will be maintained to residents and coordinated by onsite Traffic Operatives.
  • Access will be maintained to Ironbridge Medical Practice throughout the works and managed by on site Traffic Operatives.
  • Customers of Dale End Café and Brooke Evans Ironbridge hairdressers are advised to use Dale End Car Park for parking, footpaths will be open throughout to maintain pedestrian access.
  • It is advised for residents to get access to Paradise via the Wharfage End, if this is not possible, access will be managed by on site Traffic Operatives.

Dale End to Jiggers Bank (Darby Road Junction) Scheme

We are planning to carry out Patching on Dale End to Jiggers Bank (Darby Road Junction) Scheme to improve the condition of the highway.

Provisional Dates

  • Start date: 2 August 2021.
  • End date: 13 August 2021.

Proposed Traffic Management Arrangements

Traffic will be managed by using a road closure and diversion (for further details please see resident letter/diversion plan attached), which will be clearly signed throughout the works.

Proposed Working Hours

Road Maintenance: Hurleybrook Way Resurfacing Scheme

A programme of resurfacing is due to commence on Hurleybrook Way on 9 August 2021- 3 September 2021 (Civils work - With Minor Traffic Management) and 6 September 2021 - 17 September 2021 (Resurfacing and lining work - Under phased closures). The works will be carried out under Give and Take traffic management for the civils works then daily Road Closures for the surfacing works, which will be in place on weekdays only. We will be working between 7.30am - 5pm on weekdays. The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change:

Closer to the time of the resurfacing works, we will update residents with a programme of the phased road closures, so that times of reduced access can be better communicated.

We are planning to carry out resurfacing of Hurleybrook Way to improve the condition of the highway.

Traffic will be managed by using a road closure with access to frontages maintained (for further details please see resident letter and Traffic Management Drawing attached), which will be clearly signed throughout the works.

Road Maintenance: Charlton Street and Vicar Street Resurfacing Scheme

A programme of resurfacing is due to commence on Charlton Street and Vicar Street on 9 August 2021 and 27 August 2021. The phasing for the works will be as follows:

  • 9 August 2021 - 13 August 2021 Civils Works (Minor traffic management)
  • 16 August 2021 - 18 August 2021 Planning Out and Binder Surfacing (Phased road closures)
  • 18 August 2021 - 25 August 2021 Civils Works (Phased road closures)
  • 25 August 2021 - 27 August 2021 Surfacing Works (Phased road closures).

We will be working between 7.30am - 5pm on weekdays. The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change.

A programme of resurfacing is due to commence on The Lloyds/Coalport High Street Junction from 13 October 2021 and be completed by 15 October 2021. Please note Severn Trent Water will also be working collaboratively within the closure to install a new connection outside Number 35 Coalport High Street. A programme of resurfacing is due to commence on Admaston Road on 1 November 2021 and 20 November 2021. The works will be carried out under Phased Road Closures between the hours of 8am - 5pm. The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change. A summary of the Road Closure Phasing is shown below:

  • Removal of Existing Speed Cushions and Drainage Investigations – 1 November 2021 - 3 November 2021 – Stop and Go Traffic Management
  • Phase 1 – 4 November 2021 - 5 November 2021 Plane and Binder Course
  • Phase 2 – 8 November 2021 - 9 November 2021 lane and Binder Course and Civils Works
  • Phase 1 – 10 November 2021 - 13 November 2021 Civils Works
  • Phase 1 – 15 November 2021 Surface Course
  • Phase 2 – 16 November 2021 Surface Course 
  • Phase 1 and 2 (Alternated) – 17 November 2021 – 19 November 2021 Speed Cushion Installation
  • Phase 1 and 2 (Alternated) – 20 November 2021 Road Markings.

Phase 1 is a closure from Wrockwardine Road to half way across the Elmpark Drive junction. Phase 2 is a closure from half way across Elmpark Drive junction to Donnerville Close.

  • Road closures will be used at the site with appropriate diversion signage as this allows for works to be completed quickly, safely and efficiently and to minimise disruption.

  • Where closures are in force, a diversion will be signed on site.
  • Advanced information signs will be placed on each site 2 weeks prior to works commencing.
  • Access will be maintained for residents of Admaston Road, Donnerville Gardens, Donnerville Close, Sweet Chariot Way, Elmpark Drive, Sycamore Close, Beech Close, Poplar Drive, Chestnut Drive and Paddock Close and facilitated by on site Traffic Management Operatives. There will however be short periods; when the road surface is planed out and the new surfacing material is hardening, where access will be temporarily restricted.
