Resurfacing Schemes

As part of the Council's 'Pride in Our Community' investment programme between 2018 and 2022 we are investing over £50m in creating a better borough with improvements to roads, footpaths, street lights, road signs, highways structures and green spaces. View the full capital programme.

In 2019/20 it is the Council's aim to further improve our road network and highway assets. Over £5m will be invested into delivering major resurfacing schemes across the borough this year. These improvements will be achieved in partnership with the Council's new highways contractor Balfour Beatty.

Prior to works commencing, detailed project information will be accessible below. Major schemes include:

A programme of resurfacing/drainage works and relining are due to begin on 2 September 2019 for 4 weeks. The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change:

The funding for the work has come from the Council's highway capital programme as part of its 'Pride in Our Community' programme to make the borough a better place to live, work and visit.

The Project is being delivered by our principal contractor Balfour Beatty with sub-contractors for resurfacing (Tarmac), preparatory/drainage works (G & N Groundworks), traffic management (Quantum) and lining (WJ UK).

Detailed works programme:

  • road closures will be used at most sites with a combination of temporary traffic signals as this allows for works to be completed quickly, safely and efficiently and to minimise disruption
  • access for residents will be maintained throughout the works; however road closures to through traffic will be in place for most sites. Any traffic management used will be in place for the duration of the scheme dates to facilitate the works
  • site specific designs, diversion routes and phasing plans can be found below
  • where closures are in force, a diversion will be signed on site
  • all properties with frontages onto the site or where a cul de sac is within the site will receive a letter from Telford and Wrekin council
  • advanced information signs will be placed on each site 2 weeks prior to works commencing.

We are planning to carry out a reconstruction/resurfacing scheme along with drainage improvement works at the above location to improve the condition of the highway.

Provisional dates:

  • Start date: 2 September 2019
  • End date: 30 September 2019.

Proposed traffic management arrangements

Traffic will be managed by using a road closure on different phases of the roundabout (for further information please download the resident letter and phasing plan with a full diversion in place around each phase of the works. The roundabout will be fully open traffic each morning by 6am.

Proposed working hours:

  • 7pm - 6am.

Road Maintenance: Apley (Princess Royal Hospital) Roundabout resurfacing scheme

The roundabout will be fully open traffic each morning by 6am.

Road Maintenance: Brockton Way Loop (Southbound / Northbound) slip road resurfacing scheme

A programme of resurfacing, structural maintenance (Bridge Assets) / drainage improvements / cleansing and relining are due to begin on 30 September 2019 for 3 weeks. The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change:

The funding for the work has come from the Council's highway capital programme as part of its 'Pride in Our Community' programme to make the borough a better place to live, work and visit.

The Project is being delivered by our principal contractor Balfour Beatty with sub-contractors for resurfacing (Tarmac), structural maintenance (Volker Laser) preparatory / drainage works (G & N Groundworks), traffic management (Quantum) and lining (WJ UK).

Detailed works programme:

  • road closures (24 hours) will be utilised on both sites as this allows for works to be completed quickly, safely and efficiently and to minimise disruption
  • where closures are in force, a diversion will be signed on site (diversion routes can be found below)
  • advanced information signs will be placed on each site 2 weeks prior to works commencing.

We are planning to carry out a structural maintenance programme on a bridge asset, full resurfacing of both slip roads along with extensive drainage improvement works at the above location to improve the condition of the highway.

Provisional dates:

  • Phase 1 - Southbound (A442 - Halesfield/Brockton Roundabout)
      • Start date: 30 September 2019
      • End date: 18 October 2019.
  • Phase 1 - Northbound (Cuckoo Oak Roundabout to A4169/Castlefields Roundabout)
      • Start date: 2 October 2019
      • End date: 11 October 2019.

Proposed traffic management arrangements

Traffic will be managed by using a road closures on each individual slip road (Northbound and Southbound) with a full diversion in place around each phase of the works. Please see traffic management overview plan / Northbound and Southbound diversion plans below for further information.

Proposed working hours:

  • 8am - 6pm (road closured 24 hours - due to deep excavations).

We are planning to carry out a structural maintenance programme on a bridge asset, full resurfacing of roundabout along with extensive drainage cleansing at the above location to improve the condition of the highway.

Provisional dates

  • Resurfacing of Cuckoo Oak Roundabout:
    • Start Date: 21 October 2019.
    • End Date: 1 November 2019.
  • Structural Maintenance of bridge asset on Bridgnorth Road (only):
    • Start Date: 4 October 2019.
    • End Date: 13 December 2019.

Proposed traffic management arrangements

Roundabout Resurfacing

Traffic will be managed by using a road closure on different phases of the roundabout (for further details please see resident letter / phasing plan attached) with a full diversion in place around each phase of the works with all other traffic being managed with temporary traffic signals. The roundabout will be fully open traffic each morning by 6am.

Bridge Maintenance

Traffic will be managed by using a Road Closure on the Bridgnorth road with a full diversion in place around the scheme. Please see traffic management plans for further information.

Proposed working hours

  • Resurfacing of Cuckoo Oak Roundabout
    • 7pm - 6am.
  • Bridge Maintenance on Bridgnorth Road
    • 7:30am - 6pm (Closure will be on 24 hours a day).

A programme of Resurfacing / Drainage works are due to begin 28th October 2019 for 3 days. The work is, however, weather dependent and the programme dates shown may be subject to change.

The funding for the work has come from the Council’s highway capital programme as part of its ‘Pride in Our Community’ programme to make the borough a better place to live, work and visit.

The Project is being delivered by our principal contractor Balfour Beatty with sub-contractors for Resurfacing, Preparatory and Drainage works (CR MacDonald), Traffic Management (Quantum) and Lining (WJ UK).

Detailed Works Programme

  • Road closures between 09:30 and 16:30 on separate road (detailed below) will be used with lane closures on the roundabout as this allows for works to be completed quickly, safely and efficiently and to minimise disruption
  • Access for residents will be maintained throughout the works; however road closures to through traffic will be in place for most sites. Any traffic management used will be in place for the duration of the scheme dates to facilitate the works
  • Site specific designs, diversion routes and phasing plans can be found below
  • Where closures are in force, a diversion will be signed on site
  • All properties with frontages onto the site or where a cul-de-sac is within the site will receive a letter from Telford and Wrekin council
  • Advanced information signs will be placed on each site 2 weeks prior to works commencing.

Old Park Roundabout  - Resurfacing Scheme

We are planning to carry out a Resurfacing scheme along with drainage improvement works at the above location to improve the condition of the highway.

Provisional Dates

  • Start Date: 28th September 2019 
  • End Date: 31st October 2019

Proposed Traffic Management Arrangements

Traffic will be managed by using a road closure on different phases of the roundabout (for further details phasing plan attached) with a full diversion in place around each phase of the works and a lane closure will be utilised on the roundabout.

  1. West Centre Way between Old Park Rbt and Malinsgate Roundabout approach/exit will be closed between 9.30am and 4.30pm on – 28/10/2019
  2. West Centre Wat between Old Park Rbt and Lawley Centre approach/exit will be closed between 9.30am and 4.30pm on – 29/10/2019
  3. Old Park Way between Old Park Rbt to Mossey Green Rbt approach/exit will be closed between 9.30am and 2pm on – 30/10/2019
  4. Old Park Rbt colliers way Approach / Exit will be closed between 12noon and 4.30pm on – 30/10/2019
