Resurfacing schemes

As part of the Council’s 4 year investment programme to ‘Protect, Care and Invest to create a better borough’. Between 2020 and 2024 we are investing over £50m to keep neighbourhoods safe, clean and well connected. The ‘Pride in our Community’ Highways Capital Programme will deliver improvements to infrastructure including roads, footpaths, parking, sustainable transport, street furniture, drains and structures.

Our vision is to ‘Keep Telford Moving’ and in 2020/2021 we will invest £22m to deliver 200 improvement schemes across the borough. These improvements will be achieved in partnership with the Council’s Principal Contractor Balfour Beatty

Prior to works commencing, detailed project information will be accessible below. Major schemes include:

  • Beverley Roundabout
  • Hollinswood Interchange (Slip Road)
  • B5053 - Shawbirch to Longon on Tern
  • A442 - Brockton Loops
  • A442 - Randlay to Stirchley Northbound
  • Vineyard Road

  • A442 - Crudgington
  • Queen Street - Madeley.

Road maintenance: Beverley Roundabout and Approaches Resurfacing Scheme

A programme of Resurfacing Beverley Roundabout, it’s approaches and a large section on the B5061 Holyhead Road past the Travis Perkins entrance are due to begin on 1 September 2020 for 2 weeks (Monday to Friday 7pm - 6am). The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change:

  • the funding for the work has come from the Council’s highway capital programme as part of its ‘Pride in Our Community’ programme to make the borough a better place to live, work and visit
  • the Project is being delivered by our principal contractor Balfour Beatty with sub-contractors for Resurfacing (Tarmac), Ironwork (G & N Groundworks), Traffic Management (Quantum) and lining (WJ UK).

Detailed works programme

  • Road closures will be used at most sites with a combination of temporary traffic signals as this allows for works to be completed quickly, safely and efficiently and to minimise disruption.
  • Access for residents / business users, including the Shell Garage will be maintained throughout the works; however road closures to through traffic will be in place for most sites. Any traffic management used will be in place for the duration of the scheme dates to facilitate the works.
  • Site specific designs, diversion routes and phasing plans can be found below.
  • Where closures are in force, a diversion will be signed on site.
  • All properties with frontages onto the site or where a cul de sac is within the site will receive a letter from Telford and Wrekin Council.

Advanced information signs will be placed on each site 2 weeks prior to works commencing.

Beverley Roundabout and approaches - Resurfacing Scheme

We are planning to carry out full resurfacing of roundabout along with extensive drainage cleansing at the above location to improve the condition of the highway.

Provisional dates

  • Start date: 1 September 2020.
  • End date: 11 September 2020.

Proposed traffic management arrangements

Roundabout resurfacing

Traffic will be managed by using a road closure on different phases of the roundabout (for further details please see resident letter / phasing plan attached) with a full diversion in place around each phase of the works with all other traffic being managed with temporary traffic signals. The roundabout will be fully open traffic each morning by 6am.

A programme of Resurfacing A442 Brockton Loops, is due to begin on 14 September 2020 A closure of the A4169 (Northbound only 7pm – 6am) from Castlefields Roundabout (See Below).

Diversions will be clearly signed and symbolised. The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change.

We are planning to carry out full resurfacing of both Northbound and Southbound at the above location to improve the condition of the highway.

  • End date: 18 September 2020 Roundabout. Diversions will be clearly signed and symbolised.

The works will be carried out under a 24 hour road closure of the Brockton Loops and Brockton Way Northbound, there will be a night time closure of the A4169 (Northbound only 7pm – 6am) from Castlefields.

Road maintenance: A442 Lane 1 adjacent to Randlay Interchange resurfacing, drainage repairs and kerb replacements

A programme of resurfacing, drainage repairs and kerb replacements on A442 Lane 1 adjacent to Randlay Interchange, is due to begin on 12 October 2020 for 2 weeks. The works will be carried out under a 24 hour road closure with a short diversion up onto Randlay Interchange and back down the on-slip at Randlay interchange, re-joining the A442 carriageway.

We are planning to carry out full resurfacing of Lane 1 at the above location to improve the condition of the highway.

  • Start date: 12 October 2020.
  • End date: 23 October 2020.

The works will be carried out under a 24 hour road closure with a short diversion up onto Randlay Interchange and back down the on-slip at Randlay interchange, re-joining the A442 carriageway.

A programme of reconstruction, resurfacing and a new kerbline A442 Hollinswood Northbound Off-slip, is due to begin on 21 September 2020 for 3 weeks. The works will be carried out under a 24 hour road closure of the off-slip, a 24 hour lane 1 closure of the A442 adjacent to the off-slip and a 24 hour lane 1 closure adjacent to the off-slip on Hollinswood Interchange.

The diversion will be clearly signed. The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change.

A442 Hollinswood Northbound Off-slip

We are planning to carry out full resurfacing and partial reconstruction of the Hollinswood Northbound off-slip at the above location to improve the condition of the highway.

Provisional dates

  • Start date: 21 September 2020.
  • End date: 9 October 2020.

Proposed traffic management arrangements

The works will be carried out under a 24 hour road closure of the off-slip, a 24 hour lane 1 closure of the A442 adjacent to the off-slip and a 24 hour lane 1 closure adjacent to the off-slip on Hollinswood Interchange. The diversion will be clearly signed.

Road maintenance: A442 Crudgington to Waters Upton Structural Patching Scheme

A programme of Structural Patching and joint sealing is due to commence between Sleep Farm, Crudgington and River Lane, Waters Upton on 30 November 2020 for 2 weeks (Monday to Friday 7pm - 6am). The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change:

  • the funding for the work has come from the Council’s highway capital programme as part of its ‘Pride in Our Community’ programme to make the borough a better place to live, work and visit
  • the Project is being delivered by our principal contractor Balfour Beatty with sub-contractors for Resurfacing (Tarmac), Ironwork (G & N Groundworks), Traffic Management (Quantum) and lining (WJ UK).

Road maintenance: The Wharfage and Tontine Hill Resurfacing Scheme

Update:

Unfortunately, due to the flood defences currently deployed along The Wharfage and this road being a key access road to the Coalbrookdale side of Ironbridge, we have had to postpone this resurfacing scheme until further notice. Once the flood defences are removed we will re-programme this scheme and send out further communications to advise of the new dates.

A programme of profiling the carriageway with a major resurfacing scheme is due to commence between Dale End Roundabout and The Ironbridge on 18 January 2021 for 3 weeks (Working Hours: Monday to Sunday 8am to 7pm). These works are subject to river levels and weather conditions, should the river levels rise and a flood defence deployment become a possibility, these works may need to be cancelled at short notice.

  • Access for residents / business users, will be maintained throughout the works; however road closures to through traffic will be in place for most sites. Any traffic management used will be in place for the duration of the scheme dates to facilitate the works, Residents may be required to drive to the opposite end of the closure for access and at some points will not be able to access the site with any vehicle (details below).

The Wharfage and Tontine Hill Resurfacing Scheme

We are planning to carry out resurfacing of the Wharfage and Tontine Hill along with extensive drainage cleansing at the above location to improve the condition of the highway.

Provisional dates

  • Start date: 18 January 2021.
  • End date: 7 February 2021.

Proposed traffic management / scheme arrangements

  • Monday 18 January 2021 to Friday 22 January 2021

Ironwork preparation works and survey works - minimal obstruction to carriageway so reduced access can be maintained for residents and business and escorted through the site by traffic management operatives.

  • Saturday 23 January 2021 to Friday 29 January 2021

Planing and surfacing operations, little to no access will be possible for vehicles during the working hours.

  • Saturday 30 January 2021 to Sunday 7 February 2021

Ironwork reinstatements, road markings and gully emptying - minimal obstruction to carriageway so reduced access can be maintained for residents and business and escorted through the site by traffic management operatives.

We are planning to carry out resurfacing and joint repairs to Summer House Drive to improve the condition of the highway.

Traffic will be managed by using a road closure (for further details please see resident letter), which will be clearly signed throughout the works, with access to residents provided through traffic management.

Road Maintenance: Resurfacing B5063 between Isombridge Lane and Long Lane

A programme of Resurfacing is due to begin on 22 February 2021 to 26 February 2021. The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change:

  • the Project is being delivered by our principal contractor Balfour Beatty with sub-contractors for Resurfacing (Tarmac), Ironwork Repairs (GN Groundworks), Traffic Management (Quantum) and lining (WJ UK).

Detailed works programme

  • Resurfacing works carried out under a road closure (with the exception of Monday 22 February 2021 where the closure will need to stay on overnight for safety reasons)
  • Access will be maintained during the works for residents and for emergency vehicles although there will be short periods of time when the contractors will require residential and commercial traffic to be excluded to allow the surfacing material to harden
  • Diversion routes and phasing plans can be found below

B5063 between Isombridge Lane and Long Lane

We will shortly be carrying out resurfacing to improve the condition of the highway.

All traffic will be managed using road closures and diversions. Access will be maintained to residents.

Road Maintenance: Resurfacing and Ironwork

The works will be carried out under road closure (completed in phases) with a short diversion via Longford Road, Lower Bar, High Street and Wellington Road (See Below). Access to properties for residents will be maintained.

The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change:

We are planning to carry out full resurfacing at the above location to improve the condition of the highway.

The works will be carried out under a road closure with a short diversion via Longford Road, Lower Bar, High Street and Wellington Road.
