Brightstar Boxing

The Brightstar Futures programme uses Boxing, education and mentoring to help young people who are struggling in school to thrive. Brightstar are dedicated to driving achievement and positive behaviour change to every young person that is referred to us.

We work with small groups of 8-10 and have 2 support staff minimum with each group. The staff have lived experience and are relatable to the young people. They use a trauma informed approach and as a provision we have seen incredible changes. We have seen a 45% improvement in mental health and 77% improvement in managing emotions as well as improved school attendance and engagement.

We have found the boxing element can have a huge impact on regulating emotions as well as showing young people they can thrive. The education combines functional skills with practice-based qualifications and young people will achieve their First aid, boxing leaders, sport and fitness level 2 and mental health awareness qualifications. The mentoring looks at a cognitive behaviour approach, this includes thoughts feelings and behaviours, control, relationships, dealing with conflict, role models, goals setting, values and many more.

We believe communication is key between school, young person and parents and we produce weekly reports and are developing our own communication software.

Whilst on the programme young people will also be given free membership to the club in the evenings to be able to maintain the relationship with the staff and continue to gain the support.

Due to the impact, Brightstar have been successful in winning various awards such as: 2021 queens award, UK coaching changing lives award 2021 and 2022 Shropshire Chamber award.
