Red George was established in 2006 and provides a therapeutic, outdoor, learning environment for young people who have been identified as requiring extra support to enable them to reach their full potential. Pupils have the opportunity to learn about caring for livestock, farm maintenance skills, woodwork, horticulture and where appropriate, tractor driving skills. The aim is to support young people to overcome or develop coping strategies for managing their barriers to learning.
Red George offers secondary schools support by providing some time out of school for pupils to learn new skills away from the school environment. All pupils receive 1:1 support and work towards in house and ASDAN accredited Awards. During the referral process the needs of the pupils will be identified and desired outcomes. Placements are usually long term for at least one academic year, however short placements are also possible.
