Civil partnership conversion

A change to The Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013 meant that, from 29 March 2014, couples of the same sex could enter into a legal marriage.

As a result of this change, any couples in Civil Partnerships who did not, at the time of their Civil Partnership, have the option to marry, now have the opportunity to convert to a marriage if they wish to do so.

Anyone who registered a Civil Partnership before 29 March 2014 will not have to pay a fee, as long as their conversion takes place between 10 December 2014 and 9 December 2015; outside of this period, a charge would be applicable.

For those who registered a Civil Partnership after 29 March 2014, the following conversion fees would apply.

Please note: the Registration Service can only take card payments: we are unable to take cash payment.
