Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check
This involves a search of your individual criminal record to establish whether you are a suitable person to drive members of the public. The DBS is a central organisation that deals with all checks of criminal records for the Council.
Any applicant for a licence to drive taxis and private hire vehicles who has spent three continuous months or more living outside the United Kingdom from the age of 18 will have to provide evidence of a criminal record check from the relevant country for that period.
An applicant must have held a full UK or EEA driving licence for a period of at least 3 years.
All applicants will be required to undergo a Group 2 medical examination which can be carried out by any registered doctor who has sight of your medical records.
Certain medical conditions may mean that you may not be permitted to drive professionally and it is important that the Council know about such problems to ensure the safety of the public.
Please talk to the Licensing Service before organising a medical.
